in the end it was a bogus dream.
the years did not mean anything.
she said he wasn't what he seemed.
he said the same of her.

she packed her bags and left that day.
around the block, not far away,
the kids and dog could come to stay
half their time with her.

the promise made - it wasn't kept.
a grown man closed his eyes and wept.
he'd go on with his life except,
he's still in love with her.
