from here where i am sitting i can see you
although you are a thousand miles away.
your eyes, your hair, your pealing childlike laughter
absorb me in the twilight of the day.

i never would have thought you would have left me.
i never would have thought it'd end that way.
thoughts i never thought before the thoughts i'm thinking now
absorb me in the twilight of the day.

without you on a ferry in the harbor,
remembering what things we didn't say.
imagined conversations in the rooms inside my head
absorb me in the twilight of the day.

i hope you find contentment in your new life,
that is really all that i can say,
as measuredly disguisèd thoughts of vengeance
absorb me at the closing of the day.
